Miriam Gillman

Painting Conservator & Owner, Gillman Conservation

Miriam holds a Postgraduate Diploma in the Conservation of Easel Paintings from the Courtauld Institute of Art and an undergraduate MA in the History of Art from the University of St Andrews.

Prior to opening Gillman Conservation, Miriam worked as Assistant Conservator of Paintings at the Barnes Foundation, Philadelphia. Further work experience includes private conservation studios in London and Philadelphia and institutions including The National Maritime Museum, London, The Houses of Parliament, London, and Drexel University, Philadelphia.

Miriam has lectured and published on topics including the technical examination of early-mid twentieth century modern European oil paintings, and new treatment options for the conservation challenges presented by modern oil paintings, such as water-sensitive paint. Her recent publications include several essays co-written with curators on the study of paintings by Amedeo Modigliani at the Barnes Foundation in the catalogue Modigliani Up Close (The Barnes Foundation/Yale University Press, 2022.)
